The Program At-A-Glance

Snorkeling Sites:

snorkelingEnsenada Grande and Las Cuevas.
These are almost guaranteed sites because of there proximity and calm conditions. At Ensenada Grande, participants will learn basic snorkeling skills and free diving techniques in the shallow bay of Ensenada Grande. We see butterfly fish, chubs, damselfish, puffer fish, stingrays, grunts, goatfish, snappers, yellowtail surgeonfish and wrasse.

After lunch participants will use their snorkeling skills to explore the rocky shoreline at Las Cuevas and their free-diving skills to see hundreds of garden eels in the sandy flats at 25ft.

El Candelero is a great spot to get up close to cormorants, gulls, and pelicans as this island serves as a small rookery. Below the waterline are hard corals as well as large schools of grunts, yellowtail surgeonfish, king angelfish, triggerfish, scissortails, and rainbow wrasse.

El Corralito is a non-free diver's dream. With very little effort, anyone can have an amazing experience. This shallow oasis is mostly hard coral reef. Here eels, sea stars, urchins, cortez rainbow wrasse, the illusive morish idol and colorful parrotfish can be seen while floating on the surface.

Isla Islotes is a guaranteed FAVORITE for the week and probably a highlight in your life. We will snorkel with a colony of 400 wild sea lions. Called the friendliest sea lions in the world, you will be immersed in the lives of these underwater "dogs". Playful like pups, they dart past you, nibble on your fins, and face-to-face with you for great photos and at times close enough to touch. We usually dive here a couple of times because in addition to sea lions, this is the prettiest and most diverse site for fish, invertebrates, and corlal species. You will love the arch!

The island is prime reef habitat for large schools of creole fish as well as humphead parrotfish, bumphead hogfish, triggerfish, wrasse, hawkfish, and very large snappers and groupers. This is one of the best snorkeling sites of the week!

Kayaking:

Kayaks are available for participants to take out on their own for sunset paddles and if weather and time permit a guided trip is led by one of the staff.  Typically the wind has been too strong to do a led kayak trips outside the bay, but inside the bay participants can explore on their own or in buddy pairs the shallow coastline of the bay to see pelicans and inter-tidal creatures and sea caves. Often the water is so clear and calm that you can see and ID fish right from your boat.

Island Hikes:

sunset hike cactus hillThere are 2 hikes planned for this experience including a trip to an archeology site. Island exploration and hikes, especially to elevations for sunrise and sunset offer the opportunity to photograph the rock and desert landscape as well as the plants and animals that survive here. The two hikes scheduled are not difficult but do require closed-toe shoes, sunblock, a 1-liter water bottle, hat, and sunglasses. Light weight long pants are recommended but not required. Cacti, sharp rocks, desert animals, and heat are hazards. Most injuries are scrapes from cacti or from abrasions due to slipping on loose rocks. A pair of light boots with ankle support is highly recommended as many of the boulders are loose and it is easy to roll your ankle if you are not used to walking over this type of terrain. Contact Tara if you have questions.

Hikes are generally in the morning or late evening to avoid the heat of the day. Along the way your guide will ID the flora and fauna and describe some of their adaptations or just a silly story you won't be able to forget. Cacti such as jumping cholla, cardon, and sweet pityhaya can be found here.

About the camp:

Island campIt's not roughing it at all, not even close to it. Creature comforts include 5-nights at our full-service camp on a calm bay on Epiritu Santo Island. At your service is a chef and 3-person crew to prepare delicious meals and tend to camp while you are away exploring during the day.

What others have to say....

“I have been sharing my pictures with friends and telling them about our incredible week in Mexico - they all tell me the same thing - they tried tours, they were misrepresented, over priced and not worth it - plus the instructors lacked passion/enthusiasm for the event. Not so with Green Edventures. They can’t believe all we did and how flexible and patient the staff was.” Chris, MA.

"Ladies...whoever you are and where ever your are... if you are looking for the adventure of a LIFETIME with a wonderful group of new friends, sign up now and start your eco adventure. You'll be amazed at the new inner strengths that you will find within yourself.” Vicki, NY

“I have to add that Tara was the most enthusiastic, supportive and patient trip leader I have ever met in any circumstance. She suffused the group with a genuine positive energy that was exhilarating. She also showed a great willingness to accommodate all our diverse needs.” – Sue, NY
