Overview:

The Cortez Academy is a Spanish language immersion program for high school students with an emphasis on the marine ecology and culture of the Sea of Cortez and the Baja California Sur desert hosted by Green Edventures, in partnership with several locally owned businesses and families in La Paz. The program was developed from our flagship adventure Sea Quest and provides a longer, more immersive academic experience for students. This 11-day program is all-inclusive with meals, lodging, transportation, equipment and instruction which include:

 

  • 5 days (20 contact hours) of group Spanish language instruction by native instructors from a well established Spanish Language School in La Paz, Baja California Sur Mexico.
  • 5 nights at a homestay with local families in La Paz. Each homestay house will have an adult teacher chaperone and up to 7 students.
  • 2 nights at La Duna eco farm with lesson in traditional activities where students will learn about sustainable living, water conservation, local plants and their ethnobotonical uses, and traditional farming including goat milking, cheese and tortilla making.
  • 3 nights camping with eco-adventure activities including snorkeling, kayaking and hiking at a World Heritage Site on Espiritu Santo Island where students will learn about the marine ecology of the Sea of Cortez and native Mexican anthropology. Students will learn to identify fish and participate is reef fish surveys.
